Our author of this half term is Kes Gray
Our class reader this half term will be – Oi Frog!
Week 5
This week in Year 1 we have started our topic asking Why are Festivals important? We thought about all the different celebrations that we know about and came up with really long lists with some that the grown ups had not thought of! We then talked about the word ‘gratitude’ and what it meant. We feel thankful for so many things that we made a gratitude web where every child said something they were thankful for. We were so thankful for our friends and we all joined together in a big web!
Week 4
This week we have started writing our Autumn Senses poems. We are so impressed with some of the adjectives that the children have come up with (we learned that an adjective is used to describe something). We can’t wait to share some of our finished poems with you but here is a preview of some of our first lines;
I can see a cute squirrel.
I can see an orange tree.
I can see red leaves.
I can see a sparkling sun.
Week 3
Year 1 have loved our PE lessons this half term as we have them with Brad from the Leeds Rhinos Foundation. We have been learning sending and receiving – otherwise known as throwing and catching! We have used overarm throws for long distances and underarm throws for shorter distances using tennis balls. We have heard that we might be able to use racquets soon! 1B had a pyjama day on Friday as a reward for our ace attendance which is why some of us are not in correct PE uniform! 1A had a toy day for their ace attendance and could bring in a toy to play with during the day at choosing time.
Week 2
We have started looking at our Senses in Science this week. We drew some fabulous pictures of what we could SEE when we went outside and then had a quiet moment later in the week where we closed our eyes to work out what we could HEAR outside. We also looked at what we could SMELL, guessing the smells in different cups and saying if we liked them or not. They were coffee, orange juice, vinegar and hot chocolate. What’s your favourite smell?
Week 1
What a fabulous first week back! Both classes were our Stars of the Week this week as they have returned ready to learn and being happy, caring, confident and resilient.
We introduced the book of the half term- Oi Frog!- with its brilliant rhymes and funny story. We were really enjoyed looking at the illustrations and found a draw along video with the illustrator, Jim Field. We were really proud of our pictures and concentrated really well, following his instructions and creating some brilliant artwork;
