Working With The Community

Love The One

For the past few years Park Spring have teamed up with the charity, Love The One, to support them in the work that they do. Love The One aims to help by giving children healthcare and education, which is vital to changing lives of children in some of the poorest parts of India.

Mrs Horan, Miss Del Brocco, Mrs Houghton and Mrs Munton visited India to support Love the One. Since then it was decided as a school that we would raise money to sponsor Roit and his 3 sibilings for a year to be able to come to the EPIC program (school).

Since then we have sponsored 4 other children; Shankar, Satya, Roit and Chinky.

Update from our sponsored children at Love the One school

Update

During the COVID 19 pandemic, life has been tough in rural India for many people. Love the One school has been closed since March, but the team have been busy packing emergency food parcels and educational packs to all the children in school. Lack of technology has meant that children have had to get creative to speak to their teachers, and we have had some streets and villages sharing a mobile phone, up and down the street to speak to their teachers.

Recently, staff have been preparing for reopening and reminding themselves of the Love the One school vision ‘Loving children and bringing learning to Life’ with Maths and Phonics training. They even received some videos from Year 5 helping to show different methods for Maths.

Shankar

Shankar was being used on his dad’s tea stall for 6 months. He was working 8 hours a day and was really unhappy.  When Love The One found him dad agreed to let him come to school. Shankar wants to be a police man or a doctor … he is so happy to be back at school!

Satiya

Satiya is doing really well in school, he has improved so much and is really trying to get his head down. He used to find it very difficult to stay focussed, but recently his concentration is improving and he is spending less time distracting others. Satiya loves Maths.

Chinky

Chinky is a delight. She is ridiculously cute and always comes to school smiling. She is really happy to be in school and loves it!

Roit

Roit has recently had his head shaved (hair donated to the Gods at the temple!) He is really quiet and shy but ALWAYS makes it to school – no matter what.

Fundraising

Our children are extraordinarily busy as they set their minds to fundraising for the children we sponsor. This could be anything from making loom bands & masks, sponsored walks and silences, to baking their own cakes and setting up a stall at school to sell them. One child even sent some toys and gifts out of his own money!

The staff at Park Spring are always involved in fundraising and last year 11 members of staff took on the Leeds Ninja Challenge to raise money for Love the One.

On the Love The One site you can see how the money helps these children.

At Christmas the children kindly sent Park Spring some photos as well as Christmas cards
