Wow! What a brilliant World Book Day Park Spring has had! Children have had a fantastic time sharing their favourite books and listening to their teacher’s recommendations. They have participated in book-themed fun and enjoyed lots of ‘bedtime stories’ throughout the day. All classes even had the opportunity to listen to a story read by a teacher from another class! Each teacher across school visited different classes to share one of their favourite books. As I walked round school listening to adults reading aloud, it was amazing to see how calm and engaged all of the children were. All children, no matter how old they are, really do benefit from listening to adults reading to them, because this gives them the opportunity to experience what fluent *reading sounds like, and how enjoyable it can be! Staff will be posting their own ‘bedtime story’ onto our school website over the next few weeks as part of our World Book Day celebrations. Please do take some time to watch the videos with your child as part of your reading routine at home. All children in school have the opportunity to bring a library book home to share with you. They may want to read this independently, but this can also be a great opportunity for adults at home to read aloud to children. We want to develop a love of reading in all of our children, and listening to stories is just as important and children having the opportunity to read books themselves.
Happy reading! Miss Brearey (PSPS Reading Leader)
