If your child/children is/are ill on a school day, you must inform the school of their absence by 9.00am on the first day that they are ill.
You must contact school via the Absence Line on 07891274260 or calling 0113 2552526, stating your child’s name, class and reason for absence.
If medicals are to be taken during the school day please let the office see confirmation of the appointment.
If contact has not been made by 9.00am, school will make contact with the child’s family to request an explanation of their reasons for absence.
If your child is expected to be absent for more than one day, you MUST make contact with school on each day your child is absent, to keep us informed of your child’s illness.
Please let us know about dental/medical appointments which may entail your child missing all or part of a session. If your child needs to attend a medical appointment during school hours please report to the school office to ‘sign in / sign out’ your child as appropriate.

It is very important that children arrive at school on time.
When a child is late, they can miss important learning and the chance to check in with their class teacher at the start of the day. This is when children hear the plan for the day and settle into their learning.
Arriving late can also disrupt the class and may feel embarrassing for the child. Over time, being late can make it harder for children to enjoy school and can even lead to more absences.
If you are finding it difficult to get your child to school on time, please speak to us. We are here to help.
Children who arrive after 8.45pm will be considered as being Late and will need to sign in at the school office.
If your child arrives after the register has closed, they will be marked as on site, but it will not count as a present mark. This means the absence will be recorded as unauthorised. If this happens regularly, you may receive a Penalty Notice.
If your child is often late, you will be asked to meet with the Headteacher and/or Attendance Lead so we can work together to improve the situation. Please remember—you can come and speak to us at any time if you are finding it difficult to get your child to school on time.
It is also very important that any child who arrives late reports to the school office. This helps us keep the register accurate. We use our registers during fire drills or emergencies to make sure every child is safely accounted for.
Parents are expected to collect their child on time at the end of the school day. We understand that sometimes unexpected things happen and a parent may be delayed. If this occurs, any child who is not collected on time will be taken to the school office, where they can wait safely until they are picked up.
If you know you are going to be late, please phone the school office on 0113 2552526 as soon as possible. If we do not hear from you, we will try to contact the other emergency numbers we have for your child.
If a child is collected late on a regular basis, we will contact parents or carers to discuss how we can work together to improve the situation.
In very rare and serious circumstances—if a child has not been collected and none of the emergency contacts can be reached—the school is required to contact Children’s Social Care. This would happen if the situation continued until 6pm.
By law, parents and carers must ask for permission before taking their child out of school during term time. If this does not happen, a penalty notice may be issued. When permission is not granted, the absence will be marked as unauthorised on your child’s attendance record.
The Government changed the attendance regulations in September 2013. Since then, Headteachers are not allowed to approve leave during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Family holidays are not considered exceptional circumstances.
If you would like to request extended leave, please download the form below or ask for a copy from the school office. Complete the form and return it to school with evidence of your booking (including flights if relevant). You can also email the form and evidence to office@parkspringpriamry.co.uk
You will receive a written response from school within 10 working days.
If the request is not considered exceptional, it will be declined and the form will be returned to you. If you still choose to take the leave, the school may refer the case to the Local Authority Attendance Team.
