Year have had a great day making bird boxes in DT and creating some amazing eye art.

We have kindly been donated a Leeds Rhinos shirt from Leeds Rugby Foundation. Monday to Thursday mornings next week our year 6 children will be at the top and bottom entrance selling raffle tickets, in order to raise money towards their Year 6 leavers hoodies. The raffle will be drawn on Friday. Tickets will be a £1 a ticket to make it easy for the Year 6 children. Good luck and we will see you Monday.

6a completed their Mayan birthday hieroglyphs out of clay today by painting them. The children loved doing this, making it bright and colourful and adding intricate details. I hope you look forward to the children bringing them home.

Jack helped Year 6 to see the partial eclipse on Thursday where the sun was partially covered by the new moon. The children had special solar eclipse glasses to be able to see this. This is an experience of a lifetime so thank you Jack.

6A have made a fantastic start with bikea bility this week. Despite the weather

, they were enthusiastic and the instructors were really impressed with their progress. Lots of them are ready to take to the roads to continue their training – well done year 6!

6B made a fantastic start with bikeability this week. Despite the downpour, they were enthusiastic and the instructors were really impressed with their progress. Lots of them are ready to take to the roads to continue their training – well done year 6!

On Friday 6a made clay glyphs of their dates of birth using the Mayan number system. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and produced some lovely designs that they will get to paint soon!

Year 6 started a new topic this half term all about the ancient Maya Civilisation. We had a great practical day on Monday learning about who they were, where they lived, when they lived and a bit about their lives – like their love of a game called Pok A Tok! We went outside and played this game together which was fun but challenging because they were not allowed to use their hands or feet! We also learned about Maya writing and masks they’d have made and worn for special occasions before making our own. They’ve learned loads already!

Today, the children learnt  white and coloured light, how rainbows are made and other places where they might see a spectrum of colours. They loved completing this experiment and were amazed when the colours turned white.

If you would like to have a go at home then here is the video we used.
