French is the chosen language and is taught half-termly across Key Stage Two. Lessons are designed to be fun and engaging, incorporating games and songs. By the end of Year 6, we aim for pupils to be ready for further language studies in secondary school and prepared to engage with the wider world.
At the start of each year, the children revisit previous learning to evaluate what has been retained from previous years, establishing a baseline for their learning. The primary focus is developing children's confidence in speaking French - aligning with our school's emphasis on oracy. Children uses French books to record key vocabulary and complete written tasks, as well as speaking skills which are assessed by teachers to reinforce their learning and provide a tangible record of the pupil's progress.
