Year 6 have been learning about Ernest Shackleton’s adventures to Antarctica in 1914, and the brave team of men who sailed there with the aim of crossing Antarctica from sea to sea, via the pole, for the first time.
Today. we had a visit from John, whose great uncle (Leonard Hussey, see below with banjo!) was a member of Ernest Shackleton’s crew. John had so much interesting information to share, as well as pictures and stories about his uncle. We are unbelievable lucky to have had the chance to speak with someone who knew someone who was actually there and the children were hooked from beginning to end.
Thank you John for giving us your time and energy today, it brought the history to life in a way nothing else could have!
