Reception have recently been learning about the local area after showing an interest in maps. They have practised following a map then drawing their own map of our playground. They have looked at the features on a map and even controlled the bee-bots to move around a large map on the floor.
As part of the Understanding the World Early Learning Goal, children should be able to talk about their local environment. Equipped with their clipboards (and hats and scarves!), the Reception children followed a map around our local area. They pointed out local features, including: the park, shops, church and even Morrisons! We talked about different houses and the children talked about where they had visited.
