Year 5 and 6 teamed up to raise up a shout against injustice during Global Week. Following the theme of democracy, which is a British value, we all learnt about Martin Luther King’s life and how in the past discrimination was a real issue. We compared this with the democratic society we live in today.
The children could choose the activity they wanted to take part in, some wrote a set of rules to end discrimination forever. Others created a storyboard of events in Martin Luther King’s life whilst some wrote an emotive poem using a repeated phrase. The work the children created was outstanding and it was lovely to see Year 5 and 6 working alongside each other.
We all listened to Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ speech and the children were inspired and wrote their own speeches changing the phrase to … I have a voice.
I think you will be impressed at the passion the children put into the speeches.
